Avril Lennox (GBR)

1972 and 1976 Olympian
1974-1977 British Champion

Avril was born on April 26, 1956.  She was coached by Harold Davies and Bill McLoughlin.  Her country's top gymnast for many years, she won the British AA title four years in a row.  She retired in 1977 due to a knee injury and continuing ankle problems.  In 1978 she was awarded the MBE by the Queen for services to the sport of gymnastics.  

Avril formed her own gymnastics club and coached girls to both national and international standard.  She was the assistant national coach to the British elite squad, and was selected as coach to the British team for international competitions.  Avril has since retired from coaching to concentrate on bringing up her young family.
