Simona was born on October 7, 1979 in Constanta and was coached by Nicolae Forminte at Farul Constanta.  Her best event was vault, where she was a multiple European, world and olympic champion.  After her retirement from gymnastics, she married lawyer Cosmin Tabara in March 2002.  Tabara is the son of the Romanian Agricultural Minister.  Their son, Ioan Alexandru, was born on August 20, 2002, in Timisoara.
