Keith Langley (GBR)

1981 Coca-Cola Intl. R and HB Gold Medalist

Keith was born in Aldershot on June 3, 1961 and has gymnastics in his blood.  His father, Geoff, and mother, Inge, were both gymnasts.  Keith participated in gymnastics as a child, but he was more interested in soccer.  At age 13, he was invited to try out for the Coventry City Football Club.  He didn't make the cut, but started to take gymnastics seriously.

Coached by his father and John Atkinson at the City of Coventry Olympic Gymnastics Club, Keith made quick progress.  In 1978, he won the All-England Schools Championships and participated in his first international competition (World School Games in Turkey).  He won the 1979 Daily Mirror USSR Scholarship competition and trained for a month in Vladimir, USSR.  Keith attended the University of Warwick and studied electronic engineering.
