Yukio was born on September 26, 1970, in Fuchi City, Tokyo.  He trained at Seifu Club in Osaka under coach Hikonori Yamaguchi.  His training partner since childhood was Daisuke Nishikawa.  After retiring from gymnastics Iketani married and divorced.  He has one daughter.
