Tracee was born on September 1, 1966 in San Francisco. She was coached throughout most of her career by Dick and Linda Mulvihill at the National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics. Talavera earned a spot on the 1979 US world championships team but was not allowed to compete due to her age (13 years).
