Medal Total

Olympic Games:  2 Gold, 1 Bronze

Simona was born on September 19, 1969, in Azuga, Romania, and began gymnastics in 1976 at Dynamo Bucharest. She was a surprising all-around medalist at the 1984 Olympics, which was her first and last major competition.

Just prior to the 1985 European Championships, Pauca was "removed from the group and suspended from international competitions for a year"* due to a fight her father had with the coaches in Deva.** She returned to her Bucharest club and continued to train until 1986, when she retired and studied to become a coach. She has worked as a coach since 1990.

Today, she lives in Satu Mare County with her businessman husband; they have two daughters (Ana and Maria).
