Romeo was born on March 26, 1903, in Rimini.  Initially a swimmer, he took up gymnastics in 1920.  Eight years later he won the very first championships of his country, and also a silver medal at the Amsterdam Olympics.  In 1932 he became the Olympic AA champion.  While training for the 1936 Games, he sustained an injury and retired.  After WWII, Neri opened a gym in Rimini.  He died on September 23, 1961.  After his 1928 Olympic medal, his hometown named a stadium after him.
