Jerzy was born on August 9, 1931.  He became Poland's first gymnast to win an Olympic medal (2nd FX, 1952). After his retirnement, Jokiel worked as a coach in Mexico from 1967 to 1968, was head coach at his club, KS Slavia Ruda, coached in Barcelona after the Moscow Olympics, and moved to Germany in 1982. The Jokiels are a true gymnastics family: wife Dorota competed at the 1956 Olympics (27th AA) and daughter Anita competed at the 1980 Olympics (18th AA).
