Deltchev was born on July 3, 1959 in Plovdiv.  He was coached by Nikolai Nikolov at Trakia Plovdiv.  Married to (and now divorced from) former gymnast Krassimira Varbanova, the couple have a daughter named Deliana, who was born in 1985.  He's got his own gym, Deltchev Gymnastics, in Reno, NV.
