Subject: Russian Floor, recent list controversy

I was wondering if anyone else noticed that the Russian female in
Worlds who did the Arabian double front to immediate punch front
(Mirgordskaya?) was the same music and similar tumbling to Tatiana
Lyssenko's 1990 World Cup routine? I hope she gets personal choreography,
more suited to her own style now that she's really impressed some people
at Worlds. :) I think she needs a more mature look on floor to compliment
that *amazing* tumbling...
As for the recent problems with friction between gymn members, I
think it would be wise for anyone who has problems in the future to take it
up with the list managers first (ie Rachele and/or George). Over the two
years I've been a member of the list, they have done _excellent_ jobs
helping everyone through rough times. If they feel a need to mention a
problem to the whole list, then they can do it at an appropriate time. I
belong to many listservs, even some 'professional' ones, and gymn is by
far the most appropriate, self-modulated group of people around. Let's
all keep up the wonderful nature of our community!

Henrietta came to the US with her coach after the '92 Olympics. She is, last
I heard, attending college somewhere in Texas. She came out of retirement,
briefly, to compete in the recent University Games in Japan.

The "Russian female" you refer to is Elena Prugonova (though Beth will have
to double check the spelling). Her first pass was the Arabian punch and she
ended with an Arabian. Though it may have had a similar flavor, I don't think
that the music she used was the same piece as Lysenko's.

Anna Mirgordskaya is from Ukraine, not Russia, and she happens to use the
same floor music as '80 Olympic champion Elena Davydova. In my opionon Anna
is a *very* bright hope for the future with elegant and difficult routines on
every piece. I think that she was massively under-scored and
under-appreciated in Sabae.

Hi:
I really like Simona as well.  You know not every gymnast can be
Khorkina, who is exceptional in her artistry.  Simona is a very powerful
gymnast and I enjoy watching her :)

Hi,
I live in Australia and unfortunately the World Championships in
Sabae wont be shown here. I was wondering if there was anyone out there
that could make a copy of their videos and send them to me? I will pay
for all expenses and any troubles.
   Thankyou,
     Matt

She last competed at the 1995 World University Games in Fukuoka, Japan in
August.  She attends college in Texas.
