My whole message didn't come out. Anyone
know why that always happens? Anyway I was saying that I  don't know
how to get onto Dalnet and I need some one to e-mail me ASAP before the
chat today!
About the American Classic: How come
Shannon Miller and Dominque Moceanu weren't there? Also I thought that
Zmeskal was supposed to compete. Anyone know why she didn't?

It says that the top three competitors will represent the US at worlds.
Is there a fourth or fifth competitors (ie Shannon Miller or Dominique
Moceanu) still to be added in? I don't remember whether we send just
three or if we sent four last time...

The selection procedures state that "the 1995 World Championships Individual
Medalist will be invited to represent the USA at the Individual Event World
Championships."  IE, Moceanu is already qualified.

If, when you're reporting on the American or US Classics, you could give the
results at least 15 deep, it would be greatly appreciated. Our gym has a
competitor at the American who was 14th after the compulsories, with a real
shot at making the top 12 (who go on to Nationals). I know most people are
interested in only the top names in the sport, but some of the girls who
won't make the Olympic squad this year are going to have a real shot at the
national team in 1997 and it would be nice to track them this year as well.

Thanks,

Looking at Dawes' scores, I can only ask: Did she fall on Compulsory BB or
what? That 9.3 compulsory score is the only thing which kept her down. I mean,
look at that 39.5 optional score!!!!!

I'm psyched for her! She's back, but with avengence?

I remembered a couple of highlights after I posted the previous ones.
There were a couple of girls who did a release move in their routines.
It was a forward somersault with straddled legs (regrasp).  1 girl hit it
and the other barely missed it.  Also, on vault, there was a girl who did
a full twist on, half twist off and a full twist on, full twist off.  She
stuck the landings with only a step or 2.  I believe that is all...

Could someone clarify this for me?  I read in my USA Gymnastics the
procedure for selecting the team for the 96 EF Worlds, and I just
couldn't get clear on what it was really saying.

I understand that there are only five slots open and one automatically
goes to Moceanu for medalling in 95.  Below are three more, but that
still leaves one spot open, right?  Who would it go to?  And is Miller
out of the running because she didn't compete here?

No offense to these athletes who will do a superb job of representing the
US (please, oh please let Dawes win a world title!) but is holding an
all-around meet really the best forum for selecting athletes for just
Event Finals?  Wouldn't we want to send event specialists instead of/in
addition to these gymnasts?

You are free to email me privately if you don't want to post to the whole
forum.  Thank you in advance!

Oh.  1988.  That's why I hadn't heard of her.  I was only 8 years old!  Is
she a red head and retired as soon as I really got into gymn, about 1990?
She looks a lot like Kim Zmeskal?  Thanks!

Subject: olympic predictions - men's

It is time to break the silence.

So far I have only seen predictions for the women s gymnastics team at Atlanta.
But, it is time to begin some dialogue for the men. I don t have any stats with
me, so this is just kind of from the top of my head. But, I want to get it out
there for discussion.

For the teams, I don t see the US men medaling. Off hand, I would hazard to say
gold for China, silver for Japan, and bronze for Russia (maybe bronze for
Belarus if they have more depth by July). However, I think some Americans can
medal in the individuals (Steve McCain on high bar if he is more consistent and
Blaine Wilson on rings).

In the all-around I would say Li Xiaoschuang for gold. Does anyone think Vitaly
Scherbo will repeat in  96? After that it s a pretty wide open field although my
sentimental favorites would be Ivankov (BLR) and Nemov (RUS).

Anyway, those are my thoughts.
