Well, i was very disappointed at the gymnastics meet today.  The level
was nothing what I expected.  Many of the gymnasts wouldn't even have
done well in high school competition.  1 guy threw double backs on floor,
rings, and high bar.  The best tumbling from the women was a double full
and front tucks.  1 girl threw a tsukahara on vault (tucked and piked)
and a couple of guys did tsuks.  1 guy did a handspring front on vault
but landed on his rear.  On bars, there were several girls that did
giants.  The best dismounts were a toe-on front,a couple of full twisting
layouts, and a couple of fronts.  The floor was NOT 40'X40', instead it
was a wide tumble strip with foam and/or springs underneath.  My friend and I
were too tired to watch the complete meet...on beam the most difficult
things I saw were backhandsprings and front and back tuck dismounts.
Thank goodness we got in without paying...

Aaron

Subject: USA women's coach

Sorry this is late. I have had trouble getting through lately.

In my opinion, Mary Lee Tracy and Kelli Hill have the best attitudes for
coaching. They are demanding, yet reasonable. I have nothing against Steve
or Bela, they produce champions, but I just prefer Mary Lee's and Kelli's
coaching style.
I think that what Kelli Hill said to Dom D after her vault in Birmingham was

one of the best pieces of coaching ever. Mary Lee Tract replied to a letter
that I sent with a very nice letter answering my questions. Kelli was in
South Africa recently with Raegen Tomasek and she communicates so well with
a gymnast after a routine no matter what happened.
I really think these two are the greatest!
I think Bela and Mary Lee should be coaches for the Olympics, because of
their different coaching styles, which would compliment one another and
because of the number of gymnasts they will probably have on the team. (Dom
Moceanu, Kerri Strug and Jaycie Phelps Amanda Borden) If Nunno gets Shannon
and Jennie T then it might be a different story. I could depend on who wins
trials. I don't know.
Just my opinion,
Helen.   :)

Do you all remember the *huge* conversation/argument about Romanian gymnasts
quite a while ago? Well, I don't want to start that again but people must
admit that her Sabae floor was very artistic and well choreographed, which
*I must admit*, she has lacked in the past.
Congratulations to her. She has only improved with experience and maturity!

Helen.  :)

Subject: I'm baaack!

Hi, it's Simone Alexander here - I'm back on gymn after a 4 month absence
arising from the fact that I finished my course and no longer had Internet
access at uni.  Anyway, to refresh your memories, I live in Melbourne and
have just started working as an indexer for Australasian Business
Intelligence - we produce a business database on CD-ROM called ABIX - for
any Aussies on gymn check it out in your library!

I've been interest in gym for years, have numerous favourites, and eagerly
watch the progress of the Aussie girls as they improve.  I've also started
judging, just beginners for the moment, but I guess you have to start somewhere.

I've been reading with interest the recent comments about Kristie Phillips.
She's always struck me, since the '88 Olympics anyway, as a really bitter
person.  But I guess if you've spent most of your life to that point
focusing on one goal, and then it blows up in your face, you end up that way.

Anyway, enough for now,

Simone
