Gymn,

I have received some private e-mail in which the individuals thought that the
answers posted in error by an individual yesterday were the official answers.

No they were not.  That was just an error by the individual who sent them in.
Please continue to send in your entries.  The cutoff is 8AM EST Saturday!

:-)

Does anybody have any information about the American Classic which is to be
held in Tulsa, OK in February.  Is it part of the Olympic qualifying meets
for the USA.

The American Classic is a qualified to the national championships.  The
scores at nationals are part of the qualification process onto the
Olympic training squad.  The final team is selected by the coaches.

Subject: November IG

I just got my November IG and I wanted to hear if other gymners are
starting to get disenchanted.  I love IG and I am always thrilled
when it arrives, but lately I have been thinking they should just
change their name to AMERICAN Gymnast, because it's almost all they
cover anymore.  There are huge, multi-page articles on American
gymnasts and American meets, and then only little box scores on the
International meets.

I don't want to bash IG, because even if their coverage is too
US-centered, it's still excellent information.  I am just wondering
why they can't have better sources or at least contacts in other
countries if they want to truly have international coverage.  I guess
my other gripe is that the last several issues have had quite a bit
of Moceanu in them.  Seeing as this gymnast just recently made an
international name for herself, I'm not sure why she keeps gracing
their cover.  Also, I was happy to see the lovely picture of Jaycie
on the cover, but there was no accompanying article, so I'm not sure
why she was on the cover either.

What do all of you think?

Katie

P.S. Kudos to Adriana Duffy for being the most memorable interview!
I believe it!

This is especially for the British Gymners out there. This year's
Birmingham Classic artistic meet due to be held in December was
cancelled due to lack of sponsor. (Sorry I've known this for some
time but was always hoping that a sponsor may crop up... but no luck)

Meanwhile there is an European Juniors Qualifying meet to be held
in Guildford on 11th November. This is a junior women meet including
teams from Russia, Britain, Germany, Poland, Finland, Iceland and
Sweden. The top two teams qualify for the European Juniors team final
to be held in Belgium in December. Tickets can be obtained from the
Guildford Spectrum at (01483)444777.

I think it was great that Jaycie made the cover -- she did make the team
even though she was injured for Trials, so she received coverage of her
accomplishments despite the injury.
1st article is US
2nd article in international  5/8 pictures are internationl.
small article on pg.31 is on US women in Japan - University Games
pg 32 scores from international meets (maybe someone from GYMN went to ones
of these and would like to comment on them, I know I heard about Hapoel
Games second hand from Danny Akerman (gymnast) and don't feel that I can
"report" on it.
3rd article US gym (in light of the Little Girls in Pretty Boxes kinda a
good light being shown on US women's gym.
Accomplishments of people associated with IG
4th article International - Tatiana Lisenko from Ukraine

-----
as far as major articles go -- that is not a bad balance for them not having
anyone on the staff that lives anywhere but the US.

Maybe with the change in location and owner there may be money for an
international reporter, but right now -- they are trying to keep the balance.
